Is there a day in life when everything changes?
Every night we go to bed and put the day to rest. Each morning we wake up with another opportunity, another test, and somewhere deep inside the question–is today that day… THE day when everything changes?
If fact, love her or not, Oprah Winfrey is one wise soul. She said, “Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for the moment that is to come.”
Are you prepared for the moment to come? Those moments that move you forward in your life and business.
Perhaps today is the day to turn your life, your relationships, your career, or your business around. Days of discontent, indecision, and uncertainty are part of life but so are the those grand and glorious days and moments that give our lives meaning and purpose. The goal is to have less of the former and more of the latter.
Maybe your life is perfect but I would bet there is room for improvement. For sake of discussion, lets assume some things in your life are great and some areas need a bit of sprucing or spicing up.
What would it take? First, we have to commit to doing our best in this very moment. Doing our best at a few simple things can literally start to transform our lives virtually overnight. Doing our true best at everything can revolutionize our results forever.
Not to go “all Oprah on ya” but here’s another profound “O.W.” thought to consider…
“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”
Making the best decisions, exercising the best choices, and taking advantage of the best opportunities. This is how we do our best and become our best. But how do we know what’s “best”?
It begins with knowing where you are and where you want to be. What do you want to change? What are your willing to do to make that change happen in your life? What are you willing to give up or stop doing? Knowledge is key and action is the engine.
Here are a few tips to get you started…
Understand this, before you can get the right answers, you have to ask the right questions.
1.Where are you in life in comparison to your grandest dreams and desires?
2. What do you want to change and what do you want to remain the same?
3. What other possibilities exist that you haven’t yet explored that could/would help you create the results and rewards in your life that you desire most?
4. What would you have to do, not do, do more of, do less of that would give you the time, space, and freedom to move forward toward your ideal place in your life?
5. What would be the first step in opening those possibilities and maybe even moving them to probabilities?
Like everyone else in life, I’ve gotten stuck, stalled, and stymied in life. I’ve gotten fuzzy in my vision. I’ve gotten lost along the way in pursuing my dreams. Like you, I’ve occasionally gotten punched in the mouth, sucker-punched in the gut by life, and lived to tell about it (if you’re reading this, you’ve gotten through it too). Through it all I’ve learned two very important lessons.
First, understanding that success and progress rarely reside on a straight line. Knowing this has helped me tremendously in overcoming frustrations that can sometimes paralyze us and jerk us off the path of progress. Yes, there will be obstacles. You bet there will be twists and turns that are often unanticipated or unavoidable. It’s all part of the process of making progress.
Next, I’ve often been quoted saying, “As long as I’m moving in the right direction I’d rather fall forward flat on my face than backwards on my ass.” I teach it, I preach it, and I truly believe it. Facing in the direction of your destination is vital in making meaningful progress in your every action.
Someone else once shared with me “Fail fast but fail forward.” I’ve learned not to fear failure but to use my mistakes and missteps as learning leverage to do better on my next step. The faster I “fail” in learning what doesn’t work the faster I can get onto finding what does.
Here are some tips on how to get started NOW:
First, decide first what it is you want, what needs to be done, and make a commitment to make today the day when you take the first step.
Second, find an example, a model, a mentor of who or what you aspire to be, do, have, or achieve. Doing this educates us, inspires us, and helps us remember what’s possible. The example, model, or mentor you choose can be someone you know or not, living or dead. Even a compilation of people who possess the characteristics you admire and aspire to have can be examples to help you achieve your goals.
Third, understand things begin to change when we change the way we look at them.
The moment you look at the world and yourself with new eyes filled with a fresh perspective you’ve taken the first step to making today THE day when everything changes.
Today is the day, THAT day when everything changes–get up, get started, and get in gear moving from where you are to where you want to be.
